| Overview | A property company seeks to build a multi-story housing project in a neighborhood known to be distrustful of new development. | | The Challenge | Two neighborhood groups, who have successfully delayed or halted market rate housing in the past, choose to make an example of this project. | | Our Work | Understanding that community support was pivotal to the success of the project, Barbary Coast develops and implements a bilingual outreach campaign. We focus our efforts on building a coalition of respected community leaders and local residents. | | The Result | We coordinate our coalition to help fight to have the housing approved, and fend off an appeal from the opposition that brought the project all the way to the Board of Supervisors. We ultimately win at the Board in front of hundreds who turned out to speak out on both sides. |
