Prior to joining Barbary Coast, Ixchel honed her organizational skills at New World Associates. Now she keeps our fast-paced office running smoothly and efficiently - which is no small task.

A graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, Ixchel has put her communication degree into practice at various jobs - ranging from being an Art Assistant for children, to a Legal Assistant for the Department of Justice's Oakland office. After a brief stint in San Diego, Ixchel decided to return to the Bay Area to use her administrative skills in Barbary Coast's dynamic environment.

When not at work, Ixchel likes to stay active, and can frequently be found either running or dancing. A member of the multicultural sorority Lambda Sigma Gamma, she also enjoys reconnecting with other sisters throughout California.

Through kiva.org, all Barbary Coast employees make interest-free microloans to people in need around the world.  Ixchel’s Kiva partners are Sakinakhanim Mammadova and Elsy Triana.  Living in Khachmaz, Azerbaijan, Sakinakharnim started her orchard business last year at age 52.  She and her husband both work to provide for their three children.  Elsy Triana grew up in Guayaquil, Ecuador and showed an entrepreneurial spirit at a young age selling clothes to pay her way through college.  Now married with two children, Elsy hopes to expand her clothing business.
