Barbary Coast worked with internally-recognized law enforcement experts Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) to assist the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) in overhauling its policies and practices, with the goal of making the department more effective. Our team crafted and executed the project’s media strategy, helped develop a new Vision Statement for the organization, and managed the external stakeholder involvement process for this complex effort. In early 2009, the SFPD began the process of implementing the many recommendations of the organizational assessment and other effectiveness studies. By the end of 2009, the SFPD had achieved many measurable gains, including a fifty percent reduction in homicides over the previous year.
