Recurrent Energy

San Francisco, California

San Francisco-based solar energy distributor Recurrent Energy won a competitive contract with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to install a five megawatt photovoltaic system on the Sunset District’s Sunset Reservoir.  Barbary Coast guided Recurrent Energy through the complicated waters of City Hall and fostered a diverse and incredibly powerful coalition to successfully advocate for the passage of the solar project.  Our team identified, engaged, created uniform messaging amongst, developed collateral materials for, and maintained ongoing communication between Recurrent Energy and its partners at the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and more than a dozen community stakeholders, resulting in solid approval by the Board of Supervisors in May 2009.  Since then, Barbary Coast assisted Recurrent in an aggressive community outreach campaign about the future installation, including nurturing a relationship with the San Francisco Unified School District’s Green Academy pilot program at Abraham Lincoln High School which is conveniently across the street from the project site.

"With Barbary Coast, we hired the A-team of public affairs consultants to assist us in getting the largest municipal solar installation in California approved in San Francisco.  Frieda Edgette and Jaime Rossi guided us with steady leadership, sound advice, resonant messaging, and strong community outreach.  Their relationships in the community and at City Hall really helped make the difference in getting our project over the finish line."
