Capt. Chesley B. Sullenberger III

After coolly and successfully executing the most famous landing of a crippled airplane in human history, Capt. Sullenberger became an international hero in a matter of hours. Sully and his family were swamped with media, speech, and appearance requests, and he asked Barbary Coast to help him handle the tsunami of inquiries. Barbary Coast assisted the family: we helped them cope with the intense, non-stop media attention; we advised them on strategy and the multitude of opportunities before them; and we handled thousands of logistical details necessitated by Sully’s sudden notoriety. Sully is now a New York Times best-selling author, national spokesperson for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and a highly sought after public speaker. (Let’s be clear – Sully’s lifelong preparation and extraordinary competence created those opportunities for him, not Barbary Coast – we just helped him answer the constantly ringing phones.) |

Project Staff Alex Clemens Katie Kincaid "When dozens of reporters camped out on my front door and rang my phone off the hook, hundreds of opportunities to lecture poured into my email account, new and intriguing opportunities vied for my attention, and requests for my time appeared never-ending, my family and I turned to Libby Smiley and Alex Clemens. They helped us set priorities, strategically think through events and opportunities, and manage many thousands of details. I have spent much of my life focusing on building good teams – and Libby, Alex and their colleagues are a good team. I’m glad they’re part of my team.” Chesley B. Sullenberger, Pilot, US Airways Flight 1549
