College Preparatory School

Barbary Coast assisted Oakland’s College Preparatory School with a variety of outreach and public affairs issues.  Having had its Campus Improvement Project appealed to the Oakland Planning Commission, Barbary Coast helped the College Preparatory School engage in an aggressive neighborhood outreach campaign, discussing the project’s short-term impacts on the immediate neighborhood, as well as its long-term benefits to the greater Oakland community.  Barbary Coast also helped the school navigate political issues at Oakland City Hall, develop educational collateral materials, coordinate a strong coalition of community partners, and mobilize supporters on hearing day.  Barbary Coast’s acutely focused efforts resulted in the Planning Commission voting unanimously to uphold the school’s project and to deny the appeal.
