College Preparatory School

Barbary Coast assists Oakland’s College Preparatory School with a variety of outreach and public affairs issues.  In 2009, having had its Campus Improvement Project appealed to the Oakland Planning Commission, Barbary Coast helped College Prep engage in an aggressive neighborhood outreach campaign, discussing the project’s short-term impacts on the immediate neighborhood, as well as its long-term benefits to the greater Oakland community.  Barbary Coast’s acutely focused efforts resulted in the Planning Commission voting unanimously to uphold the school’s project and to deny the appeal.

Barbary Coast continues to help the school navigate political issues at Oakland City Hall, develop collateral materials, manage neighbor relations, and coordinate a strong coalition of community partners.
