Alex has served as a political aide, a community organizer, a media consultant, a campaign strategist, a policy wonk, a lobbyist, a mouthpiece, a private investigator, a public speaker, a professor, and an advocate. (And as a business owner, he knows what a pain it is to hire consultants.) He has brought his skills to bear on behalf of educational entities, developers, ballot initiatives, health care institutions, sports franchises, telecom companies, non-profits, candidates for public office, community organizations, and pilots who can safely land an airplane on the Hudson River.

He’s been involved in public issues his entire life: Alex volunteered on his first political campaign at age twelve. (His candidate won.)

Through kiva.org, all Barbary Coast employees make interest-free microloans to people in need around the world. Alex’s Kiva partners are Lubov Gurnik, Nelya Alyegrush and Deo Likunga. Selling clothes in Nikolaev, Ukraine, Lubov hopes to expand her business and open another kiosk in the near future. Living in Kamenka-Dneprovskaya, Ukraine, Nelya sustains her family by selling pet supplies and rodent control products. A father of four, Deo lives in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and runs a hardware store that he hopes to expand.
